World Climate Summit

Eind mei vertrekken wij, Mathijs en Thirza, met onze docent Aardrijkskunde voor 10 dagen naar Finland. Hier gaan we in gesprek met jongeren vanuit alle werelddelen, op zoek naar hoe we onze stem over onze toekomst het best kunnen laten horen aan de wereld. We gaan eerst naar het platteland, daarna naar Helsinki. Onderweg praten we niet alleen, we gaan ook bomen planten en andere acties opzetten om de klimaatverandering aan de orde te stellen.

Over de World Summit of Students for Climate Change 2019:
Students age 14-17 yrs and teachers from about 100 countries will come to Finland in the end of May. In the summit, students will share their experiences on climate change and ways to act. The importance of forests will also be in focus. A concrete outcome will be a commitment of schools to plant trees and tie three million tons of carbon dioxide by 2025. The summit will be organized in co-operation with
the mayor of the city of Helsinki,
the ministry of environment,
the ministry of education and culture,
the ministry of agriculture and forest,
the ministry for foreign affairs.

World Summit of Students for Climate is endorsed by the president of the Republic of Finland, Mr. Sauli Niinistö. Because of resources, the physical event is restricted only to 3 participants per country (a girl and a boy plus a teacher). But all the students and schools are welcome to join online here in Facebook. Schools are also asked to join the commitment of planting trees every year by 2025. The list of committed schools will be published 5 June 2019, at the end of the conference.
