SPARK Lichtkunstwerk Friendly Fireworks

After visiting cities like Melbourne, Bilbao and London for over a year and a half, it is high time that Studio Roosegaarde’s organic fireworks show called SPARK can be seen in the Netherlands. SPARK is a poetic display of thousands of biodegradable sparks of light floating organically through the air. “More than traditional fireworks, SPARK has a hypnotic effect. It brings calm, like a campfire. And just like a campfire, it brings people together,” says artist Daan Roosegaarde. “You can watch it for hours or stick around during your evening walk with the dog.”

Inspired by the name and the idea behind the show, SPARK the Movement developed a mini-hackathon with studenten of NHL Stenden, Campus Fryslan and FIRDA – organised in co-creation with the Municipality of Leeuwarden, Frederique Aming of the Green Office, Menno Wierdsma of Firda and Dirk Dijk, NHL Stenden. The ideas that came out of the hackathon were presented to Daan Roosegaarde and wethouder Abel Reitsma.

Students of O3 now work further on the project, to come up with new ideas for future friendly firework-celebrations.
